I had a baby that was traumatized at one-day-old and was terrified of people (we had imprint-trained her when she was born). She and her mom were in a converted poultry pole building and they had about a third of it. It wasn't too bad of an arrangement. We managed to get her halter (a nylon one) on her and the resident trainer told us to put a big lead rope on her and let her drag it for a couple days. It worked!!! After those couple of days, she was leadable and would tie without a problem!! It was excellent! If I ever have any other difficult babies, I will absolutely allow it to drag a big rope for a couple days!!

Money for education was the bait used to pass the lottery in Ohio. Education may get money from the lottery but the state takes away an equal amount that used to come from the general fund. If gambling is presented it should be with a provision that the state cannot reduce the amount it currently provides to schools.

The people who protest this obviously have never had a horse put down by a vet. At least not one that was still mobile. His solution is far better than having a carcass full of barbituits in a land fill or buried in the ground. Bravo

The rally was a tremendous success! Dr. Robert & Lisa Schwartz hand delivered 6,537 letters to Gov. Strickland, the State Representatives and Senators. It was an amazing feat accomplished in 12 days! Hopefully, the powers that be will listen and understand the dire emergancy that Ohio's Equine Industry is in. The rally was a job well done.

I think its a great thing what the duchess sanctuary is doing and I would like to help by starting a booth at local horse shows that teach people about the duchess sancuary and would take donations and give it to the sancuary so it would help feed and give vet care to the horses that need it.

My thought is to "make haste slowly" in judging this "partnership" while at the same time remembering the old adage - the Devil is in the Details. Best would be to attend on or more of the clinics to discover what messages (if any) are being sent to attendees "under the radar", so to speak. That is, are their statements being made that are "beyond" encouragement of supporting rescue organizatons, such as condemnations of the racing or show industries. Also, it is very likely the "rescue" and placement efforts of the Industry with groups like C.A.N.T.E.R. are deliberately omitted at these events by the HSUS and Parelli even though those efforts are likely more successful than any HSUS efforts. Perhaps finding way to make sure the Industry efforts are WELL-known would be an excellent (and non adversarial) course of "response".
Perhaps some focused publicity in the Parelli clinic areas shortly befor each clinic date would mitigate some potential "misunderstanding" (or misrepresentation) of the Industry.
